Shut Offs
All buildings, whether residential or commercial, will have shut off valves. Each structure will have a main shut off and localized plumbing fixture shut offs. Shut Off Valves are made to manually halt the flow of water.
The main shut off valve is generally located in direct line to the properties street meter and in the front (for residential) or front/side (for commercial). Localized shut offs at plumbing fixtures, like toilets and faucets, are located behind the toilet and under the sink.
On extended vacations and long stays away from home or work, we suggest you shut
your water supply lines off to toilets and sinks. This will ensure that a drippy faucet does
not waste water and a running toilet does not overflow to leave you with a mess when
you return home. As with most clockwise and counterclockwise movements on plumbing
fixtures, “righty tighty, lefty loosey” justly applies.
